Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP)
AVP helps people in prison and in the community to develop effective
ways of dealing with conflicts creatively and without violence. Through
the series of three day intensive workshops, we offer people experiences
that can transform their lives in powerful, positive ways. This is done
through exercises and discussions that focus on cooperation, listening,
communication, community building, and creative conflict resolution.
“The workshop was life changing; I’m leaving here with a lot I can apply
in life.”
One to One Inmate Visitation
In our One to One Inmate Visitation program, volunteers respond to
inmate requests by visiting them, mentoring, and providing referrals to
community resources. The visits help to reduce isolation, maintain
community ties, lower levels of anger, and assist in setting and working
towards goals.
“I’m thankful for the combination of kindness, honesty, and insight,
along with the resources you’ve given me. They are very helpful and
uplifting.”
Telephone Support Line
Volunteers answer calls from inmates in the Denver County to help them
contact family members, friends, and legal officials as well as give
them referrals to emergency community resources, drug and alcohol
rehabilitation programs, and take requests for jail visits from our
volunteers.
